The local branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) have invited and drilled 18 professors jostling for appointment as the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the 40-year old university. Secretary of ASUU, Dr. Lazarus Maigoro, who also served as the chairman of the organizing committee, for the interactive session where the applicants were asked questions about their capacity to drive the university’s programmes to success, that the professors got high scores at the end of the drilling.
He said the association, led by
its local chapter chairman, Dr. Christopher Piwuna, initiated the interaction
with the applicants in conjunction with the UNIJOS Advancement Office. “It was
a successful event. All applicants proved their points, responding effectively
to the questions thrown at them by our members and other stakeholders within
the university.
We threw it open for all other
sections of the university, for them to interact with these applicants and ask
questions about how they will go about implementing their programmes for the
continued development of the university,” Dr. Maigoro said. He said the
association hopes the professor eventually appointed by the university’s governing
council will be committed to the implementation of the programmes they laid out
in their manifesto during the interaction.
The governing council is expected
to commence the interview of the applicants , an exercise expected to last for
three days.
